Tennis Elbow - All You Need to Know

Published 2025-01-01 · Updated 2026-09-15 · Reviewed by Dr. Rahul K. Singh

Tennis elbow (lateral elbow tendinopathy) causes pain on the outer elbow, often with gripping or lifting. Despite the name, many people develop it from work or daily tasks rather than tennis alone.

Symptoms

  • Outer elbow pain aggravated by gripping
  • Tenderness over the lateral elbow
  • Reduced confidence with lifting or twisting

Management

Care usually starts with load management, ergonomic changes and progressive tendon-loading physiotherapy. Braces, medicines and injections may be considered in selected cases. Surgery is uncommon and reserved for persistent symptoms after comprehensive non-surgical care.
